Previously on Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 8, Dr. Choi worked a physically challenging case trying to prove himself and set his injuries back several months. Thus he had to leave the ED, again. The hospital started their annual drug testing and Maggie helped Dr. Taylor massage her results. Dr. Halstead helped Dr. Hammer find her mother. When she did find her, she finally let her stronghold go. Halstead had to end his truth-gathering crusade against Dr. Cooper.

Dr. Scott’s family friend was admitted to his hospital after a bar fight. While there he was advised to speak with Dr. Charles about his anger issues. Charles wanted to force the man into treatment which would ruin his already fragile career so he returned to threaten the doctor at knifepoint. Scott shifted into cop mode and rescued Charles from the attacker. He had to grapple with being a doctor and not a cop anymore…

Warning… Spoilers below!

On Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 9, Jessa asked Will to accompany her to her niece’s choir recital at the tree lighting, then asked him to come to her place to test egg nog. Jessa confided in Will about Dr. Cooper’s deal. And since he was out of commission, they would offer him the same deal. He would get kickbacks for every Vas-COM catheter he pushed through the hospital.

Halstead took the recording to Goodwin and a board member. They had enough evidence to go to the FBI. The bureaucrat needed to warn the board before blindsiding them with a disaster!

Halstead visited Cooper and asked about Vas-COM and he didn’t admit to any wrongdoing. He shared plans of moving to a bigger practice out of state.

The board was grateful for their findings but didn’t want the negative press backlash. They decided to fire Dr. Cooper and discontinue the use of Vas-COM devices. Halstead and Goodwin were upset as they wanted to go to the Feds but couldn’t.

Negative

Dr. Taylor’s drug test results were negative and she hugged Maggie helping her. Maggie apologized for how she pressured her into entering her life. Vanessa was content with her biological mother returning to her life.

What Did She Do To Deserve This

A couple came into the ED with their infant. Halstead and Scott caught the case. The babe was doing fine for a while then she crashed and they had to intubate. The parents were torn apart over it. She had a hereditary condition and needed immediate treatment.

Under The Mistletoe

Avery surprised Dr. Marcel in the ED and Dr. Blake shoed her daughter away as they had a rare blood type transplant, Rubin, ready for surgery.

While working on the case, Blake smelled Marcel’s aftershave (a reminder of her ex.) Suddenly, Rubin crashed with pressure on the brain. The physicians sought the expertise of Dr. Abrams as he needed a cranial procedure before the liver transplant.

The team was under immense pressure trying to save his liver and brain. Ultimately, they successfully transplanted his new liver.

Afterward, Marcel and Blake celebrated over champagne and found themselves under the mistletoe and they kissed!

Hammer and Taylor caught a case of a workaholic executive, she was experiencing pelvic pain and Maggie had to interrupt the treatment as the woman’s insurance wouldn’t go through. Her husband was confident it was a mistake and offered their credit card as collateral payment.

The woman’s condition worsened and their credit card had declined. Hammer figured something else was going on and decided to thoroughly examine the woman. She found an insect bite in her hair behind her ear.

They determined she contracted Typhus disease possibly from a flea bite derived from a rat. Her husband demanded to know what’s going on and she admitted she had been fired and fakes going to work and spends time in their storage locker where she got the bite. She felt too much pressure to admit to her husband earlier…

Taylor confided in Hammer that she had been keeping a secret and it was costing the ED too much…

Missed The Bus

Dr. Archer treated a patient who was almost hit by a bus, Kyle. Archer figured it was a suicide attempt and sought Dr. Charles’ expertise figuring a mental issue could be related.

When he awoke, he was restrained for his safety. He claimed he was on a school campus but Charles confided him with the reality of his situation. Kyle admitted he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Charles quickly knew he was having an episode and wanted to keep him in the ED. But Archer wanted to kick him out as he had been treated.

Charles found out Kyle had been drinking a new tea from a health food store. Archer didn’t have patience for mental illness. Charles devises a plan to show Archer just how schizophrenia can feel to those vulnerable. Charles gave him a pair of Oculus headsets and told him to try an app. The augmented reality vision was too intense for Archer! He only had the goggles on a few minutes, imagine living with the illness…

Charles hunted down the tea ingredients and found one was reacting to his medication. A day of getting it out of his system should remedy him.

Charles found Archer later on and the head of ED admitted to finally understanding mental conditions better- even apologizing to him and for Ethan Choi getting shot (in last season.)
