Warning… Spoilers below!

On Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 19, Dylan is slightly suspicious of a car parked outside of his apartment, where Melina is sleeping over. She assures him that he’s just being paranoid, and he relaxes.

A Complicated Situation

Will gives Hannah her coffee maker stuff back from when they were together. She tells him to keep it, and on her way into Med, she runs into a pregnant woman, Ingrid, who seems like she needs help. They check her out, and find extra fluid in her uterus.

Ingrid tells Hannah and Will that after her first trimester, she was told her baby is at risk for SMA (spinal muscular atrophy).

Will notes that Ingrid can’t be the baby’s mother because their blood types don’t match, and it would be impossible for them to.

Ingrid reveals that she was a surrogate, but when the couple found out that their baby was at risk for SMA, they wanted to terminate the pregnancy, but Ingrid couldn’t do it. However, she didn’t make the biological parents aware.

Will tells Hannah he believes that the parents have a right to know what’s going on. At first, Hannah fights him on it, but eventually agrees.

Making a Statement

Crockett meets a patient on a hunger strike, and the journalist, Mindy, who is telling his story. Crockett warns the patient, Luis, that he could go into multiple organ failure. Dr. Charles tries to get into the Louis’s mind, and finds out about an environmental racism issue at a company called Greyland. Luis says he refuses to eat until they change their mind on relocating.

Dr. Richardson shows up at Med, and reveals to Dr. Charles that Luis is her patient. She tells Luis that she’s worried that Mindy doesn’t have his best interests, she only cares about her story.

Dr. Richardson reveals to Daniel that Luis has tried to take his own life before, and that she wonders if this is another suicide attempt. Daniel tells her they don’t have the means to force him to eat.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

A ex-veteran named Gerald tells Ethan that he got a recommendation from the VA about him. Ethan leans over to look at the man’s tattoo on his wrist, and the man reaches his wrist up to Ethan’s face. He instantly draws away, apologizing and saying he wasn’t sure why he did that. Not long after, he goes under, but Ethan and Dr. Archer manage to get his pulse back.

Ethan points out that the tattoo the man had matches a tattoo that his father had, location and all. Ethan calls Felicia and asks for a favor.

Felicia shows up and gives Ethan a photo album of his father’s. They look through it together, until Ethan finds a picture of his father and Gerald together.

Ethan notes that the color of one of his scars, and suggest to Dr. Archer that Gerald may have an adrenal gland tumor causing that color change.

He shows Dr. Archer Gerald’s scans, and they agree to take Gerald to surgery.

A Slippery Slope

Dylan and Maggie meet Zoey, a girl who claims to have slipped and fallen in a restaurant, but her parents reveal that she has a history with alcohol, so they don’t trust her. She gets upset, claiming she hasn’t had a drink in months.

The tests come back and show alcohol in Zoey’s system, but she swears she didn’t drink anything.

Zoey has a seizure, but Maggie and Dr. Scott manage to help her breathe again.

When Zoey’s blood alcohol level goes up, Maggie and Daniel are even more confused. Daniel has a realization, though, and confronts Zoey with his theory: that she soaked her tampon into alcohol before putting it in in order to absorb the alcohol into the bloodstream that way. Zoey breaks down, and Maggie offers to help her to the bathroom.

Maggie gives Zoey’s parents information on substance abuse programs.

How Well Do You Really Know Someone?

Dylan’s father shows up to Med in uniform and questions Dylan about Melina. Dylan tries to brush it off and say there’s nothing going on, but his father saw her leaving his apartment in the morning.

Miracles

Hannah and Will meet the biological parents, who are upset with Ingrid. They didn’t want the baby to suffer, and Ingrid had a contract with them. As they’re talking, there’s an issue with the baby’s blood pressure, and Hannah says they have to deliver the baby right now.

Hannah tells the parents that Ingrid and the baby are perfectly healthy. She tells them there’s no sign of any defect, including SMA. Hannah reveals to the parents that they most likely got false information from their first doctor. The parents get emotional about the fact that they now have a baby.

Per the contract, Ingrid is allowed thirty minutes after the birth before the baby goes to the biological parents. A nurse comes to take the baby to the NICU, but Ingrid wants more time. Hannah validates Ingrid’s feelings, but then the biological mother comes in. She thanks Ingrid, saying their baby would’ve never been born if Ingrid had actually listened to them.

Ingrid had a friend who was in the same situation, and she had a feeling that the baby would be okay. While breaking down, she reveals that she didn’t tell them because she wanted to keep the baby. They bond over how cute the baby is, and Ingrid hands the baby over.

Taking Charge

Dr. Richardson delivers a court order to Crockett that says that they have to place a feeding tube into Luis. Both Luis and Mindy complain, and they restrain Luis as they put it in.

Dr. Charles is upset with Dr. Richardson for her decision to go to the judge. Dr. Richardson assures Dr. Charles that she knows Luis better than Dr. Charles, so she doesn’t regret her decision.

Out of nowhere, Luis stumbles out of the room completely on fire, and Crockett rushes to put the fire out.

Crockett rushes to help Luis, and Dr. Charles wonder how he got to his lighter with the restraints. Mindy reveals that she loosened his restraints, and he got his hands on the hand sanitizer.

Luis flatlines, and Crockett pronounces him dead.

Bittersweet Endings

Hannah changes her mind on her coffee maker, and knows she upset Will. Hannah admits to ghosting him, but assures him that it wasn’t because of him, she just really needed to focus on herself and her sobriety. She asks Will if they can turn the page now that they’re working together again, and Will agrees.

Dr. Charles tells Dr. Richardson that the mayor agreed to put the relocation on hold, so Luis appears to have gotten everything he wanted. Dr. Richardson is hurting, thinking that she made the wrong decision in getting the court order, and breaks down into Dr. Charles’s arms.

Dylan tells Melina that it’s not safe for them to continue their relationship. He reveals that the cops found out they were together, but he didn’t blow her cover. Neither of them want to stop seeing each other, but they know they need to. Melina walks out before Dylan can say more.

Ethan visits Gerald, and shows him the picture of him and his father together. Gerald reveals that Ethan’s father told him a lot about Ethan, which is why he wanted to go to Med. Gerald reveals that he and Ethan’s father weren’t just close, they were in love.
