Another infant passed in the wound because his mother died in a trauma accident. The family decided to donate the infant’s organs and welcome a new extension to their family.

Dr. Hannah Asher (portrayed by Jessy Schram) returns to Chicago Med!

Warning… Spoilers below!

On Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 17, Milena approached Dr. Scott about Stephon (the man who he released on her behalf, then he was shot, and returned for treatment.)

Asher was cleared for work. However, Dr. Archer wanted weekly drug testing versus Goodwin’s once a month. Though, Halstead connected eyes with Asher (you can tell she was happy she was back).

Halstead greeted Asher (who went radio-silence on him) and they discussed their awkward past. Asher buried their history in the past though. Halstead visited a young woman, Ivy, with brain cancer who chose not to pursue treatment. Her parents were no help as they supported her will to leave. Before she could get out of the door, Ivy collapsed from a seizure and Halstead got the parent’s permission to stabilize her.

Ivy woke to learn that her sister donated her uterus. She was upset about it but learned that her sister never wanted children. But she would be the greatest Aunt in the world.

Gang Wars In Chicago

The ED received a patient, Hector, who was injured and seemed to recognize Stephon. He gestured to his hooded buddy about Stephon. Scott took the news to Milena. He felt they could wage a war within the hospital!

Lt. Regina Jeffords visited Goodwin and Scott about the rival gang members. She wanted the hospital’s help in keeping her undercover officer’s identities hidden while they posed as hospital workers to apprehend the gang members. Goodwin agreed for now and wanted Stephon removed from the ED.

Maggie visited Goodwin and learned the harsh truth of why police were conducting a sting operation. Scott moved Stephon to the ICU but wanted to remove Dr. Taylor from the case for her own safety. She was adamant about staying on. Though he didn’t share why there was danger…

While Scott and Taylor moved Stephon, Goodwin noticed a strange man on surveillance video. Police identified him as Paco, a known gangster who was coming their way. Scott got his patient in the elevator in time to escape the goon. Security confronted Paco and he tried to run but undercover cops tackled and arrested him!

Marcel Facetimed Scott with intel of the gang hit and thanked him for going to bat for the CPD. Scott and Taylor worked on Stephon in a secret room but when he started to crash, they needed to rush him to the OR. He alerted Goodwin and CPD that he was in transit. A man dressed as a hospital worker tried to attack Stephon but Scott blocked it. Though he got cut, his cop reflexes kicked in, disarmed and he broke the man down while police arrested him!

Dead Donor

Marcel tried to ask Dr. Blake on a real date but she stifled him because she was a vegetarian. Marcel was called to join Asher to treat a woman, Clair, whose uterus was failing, bleeding uncontrollably from a transplant she had. The woman plead to know if she could get another transplant if the current one ultimately failed. They learned her transplant was from a cadaver rather than a living donor.

The surgeons took the prognosis to Blake who would perform the surgery and she denied it because it was elective surgery and she was in the business of saving lives. Asher was shocked while Marcel knew the decision stopped with Blake. Archer, too, was in agreement with Blake.

Surgeons delivered the bad news that Claire’s uterus was failing and they needed to remove it. She wanted her own child badly and her sister offered to donate hers. Claire denied the gesture and wanted physicians to consult other hospitals for donors.

Claire crashed and was rushed to the OR for a hysterectomy. Her sister pleaded with Asher to donate her uterus. Marcel now had a live donor to Blake and she still denied it because her principle condensed that transplant surgery was meant for saving lives. Marcel urged her for empathy and she agreed to perform the surgery.

While in surgery, Claire crashed and had to be zapped back. Archer wanted to abort after they stabilized her while Marcel wanted to push forward. Blake scold him because that risk was the reason they did perform elective transplant surgeries.

Forced Feed

Dr. Charles asked Halstead about Ivy’s case and wanted to meet her parents. They still supported her decision not to have chemotherapy. Charles noticed the tea they were giving their daughter, which was debunked by the FDA as a treatment for her condition. Halstead felt it was medical neglect and wanted to sound the alarm to authorities. Though, Charles calmed him to speak with the mother.

Ivy’s medical records came in from her previous hospital and they noticed her brain tumor was shrinking! The family felt the tea was working while Halstead explained it was debunked as a viable treatment. Ivy wondered why she kept vomiting then regurgitated blood and passed out. They rushed her to the scanning. The family still held faith in the tea.

Ivy’s tests revealed she had unknowingly been given oral chemotherapy drugs. Charles asked to see her brother’s hands and it revealed chemical burns. He was secretly giving his sister over the internet treatment chemo because she refused it.

Doctors illustrated to Ivy’s parents that the chemo (although ill-received) was working. Her parents remained adamant about following Ivy’s wishes and exited with her.

Old Wounds

At the end of her their shift, Blake confided with Marcel that she didn’t carry Avery… she used a surrogate. She explained her situation in the past and explained how the case opened old wounds. She asked him out to dinner.

Maggie was worried about Taylor being on the case and was happy to see she was fine.

Archer patched Scott up, however, Goodwin asked to complete it in an effort to chat with him. She reminded him that the coat he was wearing these days was white… not blue. Later on, Milena visited Scott at his place, her cover wasn’t compromised. Though she apologized for putting him in danger. The two locked eyes and he kissed her. He pulled back warning her of the dangers of them fooling around. Milena was ready for danger…
