Warning… Spoilers below!

On Chicago Fire Season 11 Episode 1 Premiere, Severide and Stella have a dangerous run-in with Campbell’s men on their honeymoon. A newbie, Sam Carver, arrives to 51, but he isn’t totally new to everyone there. Violet and and Sylvie deal with their complicated relationships.

The Honeymoon’s Over Before it Began

Severide and Stella enjoy their alone time in the cabin, until Stella hears creaking wood and other noises coming from outside. Severide goes to check it out, and the door handle starts shaking as if someone is trying to get in. Severide tells Stella to get dressed and escape out the back, while he blocks the door with a chair. All of the sudden, someone shoots through the door, causing Severide to fall over. A hand reaches in to unlock the door, and Severide and Stella manage to escape out the window right as Campbell’s men come in.

However, they also jump out the window, too, and see Severide and Stella as they begin to run away. They start shooting, and Severide tells Stella to head the other way, even though she doesn’t want to leave him. Stella runs off, hears Kelly fall, and watches as Campbell’s men shoot inside the cabin where Kelly went. Stella calls out, getting the man’s attention, and runs. She doesn’t make it far before tripping, and the man holds a gun to her as she lays on the ground. Suddenly, Severide stabs the man with a pitchfork. They see headlights, and then the cops and Pryma show up. Campbell is sitting in the back of the cop car, and Stella and Severide share a relieved hug.

New Faces

Gallo tells Mason’s temporary replacement, Munzel, that Pryma put a tracker on Campbell’s men’s car and followed them to the cabin, and that’s how they were caught. They’re all shocked that they both returned to work two days later.

Stella goes to see Boden, and tells him that Mason is loving fighting wildfires, but Munzel is no replacement. Boden tells her that there’s a firefighter coming by that he thinks would be a great fit.

Miscommunication Costs

Sylvie tells Violet that her and Matt haven’t talked for a week, and doesn’t know what to make of that. Violet assures her that someday it will get better, but Sylvie doesn’t seem to believe it. Sylvie asks Violet about Hawkins, but Violet says she hasn’t returned any of his calls and feels paralyzed in the situation.

While filling up the firetruck, Gallo sees Chief Hawkins, and asks if everything is okay. Hawkins reveals that he’s being transferred because he took the fall for the Emma situation. He doesn’t regret it since Violet is still at 51, and Gallo assures him that she’s doing okay.

Kyle shows up and visits Sylvie at the firehouse, saying he’s in town for a few days. Sylvie gets called away before they can catch up, and Violet finds out from Sylvie that they used to be engaged.

Helping Hands

The team arrives to a scene where two men nearly hang off the roof of a house. One of the men is unconscious as the other one hangs on to him, saying he just randomly passed out. Gallo and Stella help them down from the roof and load the unconscious man into the ambulance. They find a catheter that indicates that he’s in kidney failure, but stabilize him and send him off to Med.

Severide tells Cruz that he’s giving a grand jury testimony right after his shift. Cruz wonders why he’s still doing it after the guy was already caught, but Severide says he wants to pile on as many charges as possible, and he wants to make sure they deal with the mole in the CPD. Cruz says that Severide has been through so much, he should just want to put it all behind him. Severide changes the subject, clearly not wanting to talk about it.

Gallo tells Violet that he ran into Hawkins and tells her that Hawkins took the blame for the Emma situation and now he’s being transferred. Violet is shocked, and doesn’t understand why Hawkins would do that. Gallo says it was to protect her.

Violet tries to call Hawkins, but is sent to voicemail. She apologizes for not calling him and freaking out over everything. She tells Hawkins to call her back.

Old Rivals

Stella goes to meet the new firefighter, and it’s someone she recognizes. His name is Sam Carver, and Stella went to the Academy with him. She tells Carver that she trusts Boden if he said that he’s a good fit, and Boden promises to reach out soon. As soon as Carver leaves, Stella tells Boden that he’s trouble, that he is arrogant and they never got along during training. Stella doesn’t think he’s 51 material, but Boden thinks that he is, and that Stella will need to work out the kinks of their relationship. Stella says she’ll do her best.

Nothing’s Being Done

Pryma talks to Severide after his testimony, but Severide wonders why they didn’t mention the CPD mole at all. Pryma says they’re on top of it, and Severide questions what that means, if the guy has been named at all. Pryma tries to get Severide to calm down, but Severide isn’t having it; Stella almost died because of the mole. They get to yelling, and Pryma tells Severide to stay in his lane and let the police handle it.

Severide meets up with Hailey Upton about the mole in CPD and tells her that Pryma isn’t doing anything about it. Hailey doesn’t know much, but speculates that Pryma might be wanting to exploit the mole and get information out of him. Severide freaks out at this idea and drives away.

New Chapters

Sylvie meets up with Kyle at a café, and they catch up. Kyle praises the Paramedicine program, he’s heard a lot about it. Kyle tells Sylvie that he just got engaged, and congratulates him and asks for details. Kyle reveals that he ran into his best friend from high school, they caught up, and are now getting married. The stars aligned for them.

Violet thinks that Hawkins is over her, but her friends assure her that he’d do anything for her. Mouch tells Violet that there was a big meeting, that Hawkins was probably there, that’s why he didn’t answer her.

Stella sits down with Carver, wanting to clear the air before he starts at 51. When Stella calls him out for being cocky, Carver says that’s when he was a newbie, he wants to prove how far he’s come. While he’s talking, his sleeve rides up a little, and there are visible burn scars on his arms. Stella notices, but Carver asks her about becoming lieutenant. Stella tells him that DC Hill gave her a boost, too, and Carver says he isn’t surprised that Stella is a fan of hers.

Stella goes home to Severide and rants about Carver. She thinks his comment meant that he believes she only got promoted since she’s a woman of color. Severide plays devil’s advocate, thinking Sam is just trying to get under her skin. Stella says Boden loves Carver for some reason, so she has to do her best to make it work, despite being upset with him.

Severide opens up about not knowing how to get the CPD mole caught. Stella suggests that Severide checks in with Commander Pearce, to go further up the chain of command.

Righting the Wrongs

Violet meets Hawkins outside of his place. Hawkins is surprised, since he thought Violet was done with him, but she tells him she’s not, and the two kiss.

Severide ends up going to visit Commander Pearce, who he hasn’t seen since his father’s funeral. Pearce tells Severide that his father loved him and would’ve done anything for him, and Severide shouldn’t have shut him out the way that he did before he died. He doesn’t want to do any favors for Severide. As Severide is about to leave, he tells Pearce a story about how Benny almost made a mistake, but Pearce was able to save him. Severide knows Pearce is a man of honor, so he doesn’t want a favor, he wants Pearce to do what’s right.

Boden introduces Carver to the rest of the team, and tells them a story of a heroic rescue that he pulled. Carver still manages to be cocky in front of everyone, giving them a sense of his attitude.

Violet tells Sylvie that her and Hawkins got back together and worked everything out, and that he doesn’t want to stop the transfer. They’re both excited to be able to not have to hide their relationship anymore.

Wedding Crashes

The team arrives at a wedding, where the tent is on fire after someone sent off pyros inside. While Stella heads inside with a few firefighters, she orders Carver to stay outside and help disable the PA system.

Carver successfully disables the system as instructed, and the team works to rescue the trapped children, and the bride and groom.

Stella and Mouch carry out a victim where the vinyl from the wedding tent melted onto his face. Violet manages to cut a hole in the fabric for his mouth, and they are able to intubate and take him away to Med, but the victim doesn’t make it.

Proving Her Power

Boden tells Stella that Carver is capable of a lot more than the duty that she gave him at the call. Stella says that he hasn’t proven himself, and he needs to know his place on her team. Stella asks if Boden can step back and let Stella lead him her own way, and Boden says he can take a tiny step back.

Violet and Hawkins show up to the bar where everyone’s at, hand in hand, and start kissing in front of everyone. Despite just getting there, Sylvie leaves, saying she needs to take care of something.

Justice Is Served

Severide meets up with Pryma, who tells Severide that he lost him a valuable CI by getting Pearce to expose the mole. His name is Danny Cavanaugh, and Pryma tells Severide that he would’ve been able to help the CPD catch more people in the heroin ring. Severide doesn’t feel bad though, Cavanaugh got what he deserved. Pryma tells Severide that he just lost a friend before he storms off.

Back home, Severide tells Stella that when he first agreed to testify to take Campbell down, it was to protect himself. But after they got married, and everything happened at the cabin, he realized that everything that affects him now affects her, too. He knows it could’ve gotten her killed, but Stella assures her him that she will always be there for him, no matter what.

Bad Timing

Sylvie calls Matt, and they break up. Sylvie realized their stars weren’t aligned and the timing wasn’t right for them.
