Betty Who recently released a new EP called Betty Pt. 1 . This EP is the first in a new conceptual music rollout. A second EP will be released in the fall and a full album will debut next year. She is touring currently in the U.S. including performances at various Pride and music festivals. We had the exclusive pleasure of interviewing her in AT&T’s Flagship store on Michigan Ave. in Chicago for Pride celebration month.
We asked Betty what differentiates this EP from her previous. She responds, “This is my first EP as an independent artist. So it sort of has this very nostalgic weird feeling to it… kind of like doing it again starting from scratch. It’s a little bit more eclectic… of a group of songs than anything else I’ve put out.” Ms. Who elaborates, “I feel like everything else I wanted it to sound really cohesive, and this project I purposefully wanted it to not sound cohesive. I think you still hear me and my stories I’m telling and the music but I think it’s sonically a little bit not like risky… but it’s definitely different for me.” It’s more important to be who you are and letting that come through in your music.
Betty is again an independent artist and offers some advice to those struggling with the decision of going major or indie. She explains to up-and-comers that they should do what works for them. Don’t let anyone else talk them into something- do what your gut feeling tells you!
