Beyoncé To Receive Humanitarian Award At 2020 BET Awards

Beyoncé will receive the prestigious Humanitarian Award at the 2020 BET Awards. We all know her for music and film. However, Bey’s impact on giving back to the world is profound.

She has implemented several initiatives under her BeyGOOD campaign. Since 2017, she has established “Formation Scholars,” to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and be bold, creative, conscious, and confident. The scholarship awarded students from four colleges.

In the same year, she partnered with UNICEF to create “BeyGood4Burundi,” with the aim to bring safe drinking water to Burundi. Which is a small East African country that is landlocked. The next year she created the “Homecoming Scholars Award Program” following an epic Coachella performance. The benefits went to students at eight HBCU colleges and universities.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Beyoncé teamed up with her mother, Ms. Tina Knowles Lawson, to launch the #IDIDMYPART mobile testing campaign. For encouraging Black and brown residents of her hometown, Houston, to get testing for the Coronavirus. This disease disproportionately affects this demographic, and knowing the status is a step toward treatment.

Recently, on Juneteenth, she released a new single “Black Parade.” Follow that with the announcement of the BeyGOOD’s Black Business Fund to support Black-owned businesses.

Furthermore, BET will also honor Nicolas Johnson, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and D-Nice as the 2020 “Shine A Light Honorees.” Assa Traoré a French anti-racist activist has been selected as the “International Global Good” recipient.

Previously announced, there are a wealth of super-star performers including Alicia Keys, Nas, Chloe X Halle, and many more. We lost many great staples in the Black community in 2020. A tribute for Kobe Bryant will be performed by Lil Wayne. As well as a tribute for Little Richard will be performed by actor/comedian Wayne Brady.

Bravo Beyoncé as she is much deserving of the BET Humanitarian Award! Tune in to the show on BET, BET Her, and CBS on Sunday, June 28th from 7 pm to 10 pm CT.
