The Rundown

Gene on Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 10 Recap

Gene on Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 10 Recap

We flashed forward to Francesca Liddy as a property manager. She drives to a secluded area but feels she’s being followed and loses the tail. She arrives at an abandoned gas station and waits for the phone to ring. It’s Saul/Gene, and he wants to know the scoop about Albuquerque and the Feds. He paid her for the news. Here’s the rundown of what happened after Saul fled:

  • Francesca still gets followed, mail opened, and her phone is tapped.
  • Jessie Pinkman’s car was found by the border, and he was in the wind (of course, he fled via El Camino).
  • All of Saul’s money in shell companies were confiscated, including the nail salons, laser tag, and an offshore account.
  • Skylar White got an immunity deal.
  • Huell didn’t get pinched but was back in New Orleans.
  • Bill Oakley flipped sides and is now a defense attorney.
  • Francesca received one call from Kim Wexler. She asked about Saul/Jimmy… and whether he was alive.

Gene drove to another secluded payphone and called the operator to connect him to a Kim Wexler in Titusville, Florida, who supposedly works at Palm Coast Sprinklers. (The audience did not hear the conversation, but it wasn’t good as he was screaming into the phone and then destroying the antiquated device, busting the window out of the door!)

The Scam

Gene visited Jeff’s home to speak with Marion and showed her how to watch funny cat videos on YouTube. In private, he told Jeff about a new scam. Jeff was reluctant because Gene told them that their business was done. However, Gene reignited their fuel, convincing him to switch to the night shift, plus they needed barbituates…

Later on, Gene was performing terribly at a karaoke bar because he lost a bet with a drunken patron. The obnoxious guy kept betting Gene (who lost every bet on purpose so that more shots could be consumed). Gene cleverly poured the drinks down a tube he hid inside his shirt.

Gene Takavic on Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 10 Recap

Gene Takavic on Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 10 Recap

Gene got him to a cab, and he was too inebriated, yet Jeff got him home. Before the man closed his door, Jeff slid duct tape over the lock. Shortly after Buddy entered the unlocked home, he carefully and quietly snapped photos of Alfred Hawthorne Hill’s identification, credit cards, banking statements, income taxes, and more. Buddy slipped out and almost forgot the tape but returned for it.

In flashback, Saul emerged from the makeshift grave and was forced inside the RV while Walter White (portrayed by Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (portrayed by Aaron Paul). Saul sniffed out the fact that the duo manufactures the “blue stuff.” Also, decyphering that Jessie was Igor and Walter was Heisenberg. Walter wanted to know how was he going to get Badger off for $80K. Saul reassured him not to worry about their drug dealer.

When it was time to get out of the desert, the meth lab on wheels wouldn’t start as usual. While sitting and waiting, Jessie asked Saul, “Who’s Lalo?” A startled Saul wondered why he asked. Jessie recalled he was so frightened, thinking Lalo had sent them to kidnap him. Saul replied that Lalo was nobody…

Piqued Interests

Gene ordered a Swing Master for spine support and continued scamming suckers night after night. He would dissolve the barbituates inside the bottles of water Jeff would offer to drunks on the ride home. Slowly but surely, the habits of Saul Goodman would emerge in Gene, including stacking and hiding cash, paying for call girls, and scheming.

We flashback to Mike meeting Saul at his office on his Swing Master. Saul hired Mike as a private investigator for intel on his cases. Mr. Heisenberg’s case came up, and he was interested. Mike convinced him to leave that cause alone.

Heisenberg and his partner were amateurs and would be either arrested or would be killed. Although they hadn’t said Gustavo Fring’s name, Saul asked did a hit order had possibly come from the boss. Mike reassured Saul that Heisenberg was a lost cause. However, Saul was intrigued by the oddball duo’s story and product.

Flash forward, and Gene received an upsetting call and then raced to meet with Jeff and Buddy. There was one scam victim who had cancer. Buddy aborted the job because he found the same pills his father once took for pancreatic cancer on the guy. Buddy didn’t want to pull off the scam on this mark. Gene was livid, firing Buddy and pushing Jeff to help him return to the scene to finish the job.

We flashed back to Saul Goodman heading to Walter’s high school to talk. We flashed forward to Gene breaking the window of the cancer victim’s home…
