Angie Stone & Ginuwine Open Up About Being Awarded At The Black Music Honors

Celebrity Myxer had a chance to catch up with Grammy-nominated R&B icons Angie Stone and Ginuwine. We interviewed the singers about their awards received at the 2021 Black Music Honors ceremony. Ginuwine explains the honor as, “The recognition from your people is always received well.” He was humbled by the honor, especially post-Covid when musicians scramble to figure out how to resume performances. Ginuwine was happy to be recognized and says, “it’s a blessing!”

“It’s so good to get your flowers while you can still smell them!”

In my interview with the legendary Angie Stone, she got teary-eyed- which reciprocated to myself. She’s a giver. She says, “I love giving of myself. I love giving other people joy. I love seeing other people benefit from the gift that God gave me.” The Grammy-nominated singer solidified her statement sharing, “If I’m not giving, I’m not happy.”

Angie goes on to share her opinions of Juneteenth– stating it’s a gift. The date signifies the emancipation of enslaved African people in the United States. The flagship airing of the 6th annual Black Music Honors awards will air on the holiday on Bounce TV. Other markets will air the event from June 5th through July 4th. Mrs. Stone concurred with Ginuwine about what it means to receive such iconic awards. To her, it means, “being recognized by our people means we did something good. We’ve done something right!” She values the fact that fans, critics, and the music industry appreciates her work. Angie Stone fought back tears of joy when she shared her gratitude for fans acknowledging her music… her gift. It’s so good to get your flowers while you can still smell them.

Also, multiple Stellar Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated gospel vocalist Marvin Sapp will receive the Gospel Music Icon Award.  Grammy Award-winning jazz virtuoso, Ramsey Lewis will receive the Legends AwardThe National Museum of African American Music will be honored with the Legacy Award.

Henry Hicks, who is the director of The National Museum of African American Music shared his excitement for his organization receiving an award. He says, “the acknowledgment that you’ve done something good is really a very simple concept but it’s very powerful. It sends a message to the country that Black music matters. This music is a core part, a central part of American music.” The museum will open MLK Day as well as celebrate its grand opening on Juneteenth.

Be sure to tune into this epic awards show highlighting the best in Black music. The performer lineup is amazing.
