Watch 61st Street Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot”

A drama that follows Moses Johnson, a promising, black high school athlete, who is swept up into the corrupt Chicago criminal justice system. Taken by the police as a supposed gang member, he finds himself in the eye of the storm as police and prosecutors seek revenge for the death of an officer during a drug bust gone wrong.

Moses On 61st Street Season 1 Episode 1 Premiere

On 61st Street Season 1 Episode 1 premiere, Moses is a track star, leaving tomorrow on a scholarship to college. His coach Angelo pushes Moses hard, encouraging him, cheering for him, and always pushing him to be better.

Franklin is a defense lawyer who struggles daily to make a difference in a system that doesn’t care and won’t change. Franklin is late to court, as he is having trouble urinating. The judge is already pissy at Franklin before he even begins his defense of the poor man who stole some baby formula for his newborn. The judge is uncaring about the excuses the thief gives and sends him to prison. Franklin tells the judge maybe he should spend some in the South Side to figure out how real-life works. The judge hates Franklin and his poor clients. On his way home, Franklin gets a call from his doctor informing him, his prostate is enlarged and he needs to have a biopsy done.

Wearing A Wire Inside The Cop Shop

Micheal meets up with his informant inside The Nation, Tutu. Tutu brings up the fact that the police only apply pressure on The Nation and never on The Faction. Micheal wonders the same and has his wife help him put a wire on so he can go talk to Lieutenant Brannigan about this. Micheal asks Brannigan why he didn’t make sergeant, and Brannigan informs Micheal that he is a good, clean cop. What!? Does that mean Micheal didn’t make Sergeant because he isn’t a dirty cop?

Micheal informs Brannigan that his informant says the cops target The Nation and are on The Faction’s payroll. Micheal asks him who The Faction could be paying. Brannigan wants the man’s name inside The Nation with all the questions. Micheal names Tutu.

Calvin, Moses’ friend, wants to take his dog Tyson on a run. Calvin puts colors on Tyson so they won’t be shot at. Moses comes by and says he will run Tyson, he has a free pass with The Nation to be on their streets.

A Deadly Run In

Micheal tells his partner, Johnny, that he has a “bottom drawer”. When Johnny questions him about it, Micheal says forget it, Code Of Silence and all. They pull up to assist Brannigan at a known Nation corner on 61st Street.

Moses sees Tutu and The Nation harassing his little brother Josh. Moses ends up offending Tutu who pulls his gun on Moses. TJ, Moses’ friend inside The Nation, talks Tutu down. Tutu fires the gun over Josh and Moses’ heads and is shot straight through the chest.

Micheal and Johnny run up on the chaos as Moses takes off. Micheal pursues him. Moses is trapped but won’t give up. He tries to run past Micheal, but Micheal tries to stop him. They collide and Micheal falls and splits his head open.

Johnny finds Micheal bleeding out of the back of his head profusely and the wire on Micheal’s body. Johnny takes the wire. Calvin and Tyson are hidden and Calvin has witnessed Micheal’s death and knows it was an accident. Moses runs again.

Heartbreaking News

Micheal is dead and Johnny has to go tell Jessica, Micheal’s wife, the horrible news and break her heart. Brannigan notices security cameras at the scene and a bloody handprint.

Moses runs into Calvin. Calvin tells him, he saw everything. Norma, Moses’ mom, is packing his suitcase for college, Josh is in cuffs at the police station crying, and Moses is scrubbing Micheal’s blood off his hands.

Police Intimidation

Johnny questions Josh and becomes so mad Johnny almost punches him. Brannigan says he is charging Josh with selling heroin on the street corner where a cop was murdered. Josh will be charged with felony murder.

Brannigan keeps questioning and accusing Josh, a minor with no lawyer or parent present. He wants to know the name of the man who killed Micheal. Josh won’t name is brother, Moses! Brannigan calls in Young and Frater and whispers “the river”.

The police bust in on Moses and Calvin. They run and Tyson attacks the police. Tyson is shot!

Run, Moses, Run

Moses hides in a dumpster when helicopters start circling the area. Josh is in the back of the cop car, begging for his life. Young and Frater throw him over the bridge into the river!

Franklin’s wife, Martha, tells him a cop is dead and Moses Johnson is the suspect. Franklin is highly upset and yelling passionately, which disturbs their autistic son, David.

Brannigan and his team raid Moses’ house. Norma is screaming and crying. Young plants heroin in her house and then conveniently finds it. Moses calls her and she tells him to run! Even as she is being arrested, she keeps screaming for Moses to run. These cops are dirty!
