2021 BET Awards Winners & Best Moments

Celebrity Myxer has the complete BET Awards 2021 winners list, performers line-up, as well as all of the best moments from this year’s show! This year’s show was live and in-person with more performances than ever!

The host was Taraji P. Henson. She floated down to the stage, and in her own words, “Now that’s how a bad b*tch enters the room!” This Black queen made sure to give flowers to those who well deserve them. The satires of H.E.R. (as S.H.E.), Tina Turner, and Erykah Badu were hilarious!

BET Awards Best Moments

The opening performances packed some punch!

We opened the show with a bit of anointing with Kirk Franklin and Lil Baby performing “We Win.”

Migos recently dropped The Culture III in time to perform “Straightenin” The trio then shifted to perform “Type Shit” which features Offset’s superstar wife, Cardi B. We had a pleasant surprise as Cardi had a cute baby bump. Kulture is going to be a big sissy!

H.E.R. rocks out at 2021 BET Awards

Oscar-winner, Grammy-winning moonshot artist H.E.R. never disappoints as she opened her set as a solo drummer monologue performing “We Made It” from her new album Back Of My Mind. The multi-talented artist shifted to a solo guitar rock-out session as well. We were a little bummed she didn’t perform her hit single “Damaged.” That song is everything and soooo addicting.

You know DaBaby is one of the most creative artists of this generation. His videos are similar to the thought process-depth we’ve seen from Ludacris. His performance of “Ball If You Want To” was a bit raunchy for mainstream TV but dope nonetheless!

Megan Thee Stallion with the bionic knees at 2021 BET Awards

Megan Thee Stallion blazed the stage opening up with her new single “Thot Shit.” We were hoping she collided a few of her other hits such as “Body” or maybe a collabed with DaBaby performing “Cry Baby.” But of course, she didn’t disappoint with her bionic knees!

Jazmine Sullivan had Congresswoman Maxine Waters segue her performance of “Tragic.” Then the Heaux Tales singer invited Ari Lennox on the stage for their duet of “On It.”

Roddy Ricch performed “Late At Night.” Lil Nas X brought an experience clad in Pharoah ensemble (reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time”) as he performed “Montero.”

When Silk Sonic won the BET Award for “Best Group” the audience serenaded the main stars Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars to the stage. We were blessed to hear that groovy melody “Leave The Door Open!” They told us the new album was dropping. They even teased us by asking if we wanted to hear a new song off the album, in suspense they didn’t offer up but did run that previous hit back!

We got a twerking history lesson from Taraji on the board, but City Girls visually stimulated us with their performance of “Twerkulator!” My town… Chitown got some love with “It’s Time For Da Perculator” mixed into the performance routine.

The ladies of Tyler Perry’s Sistas addressed a burning international issue among women in the Black community. Bonnet bashing… They wanted to make it normal and acceptable to wear in public. As Mignon Von said, “If Gucci made bonnets… everyone would be wearing them!” LOL! In all seriousness, this relates to a real issue of others trying to dictate how Black women wear their hair. Did you know there’s a ban in 13 states for this? 37 more to go, support the movement here.

MC Lyte introduced her friend and sister in pioneering Hip Hop, as Queen Latifah was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award! She kicked the door open as her message from the beginning was, “You will respect me!”

Rapsody and Monie Love gave the Queen a tribute singing melodies such as “Ladies First.” The iconic Lil Kim and MC Lyte were drafted to the stage to sing Latifah’s “U.N.I.T.Y.” hit. Kim thanked her for paving the way for her generation and beyond.

In Queen Latifah’s acceptance speech she said, “I’ve always celebrated the woman because I was raised by a beautiful Black woman and a father who praised the Black woman!” It was a fitting speech that aligned with BET’s theme- the Year of the Black Woman.

Before DJ Khaled loaded up the stage with a star-studded lineup, Lil Baby and Lil Durk performed a new track off their new joint album The Voice Of The Heroes. Next, the duo ripped it with “Every Chance I Get.” Megan Thee Stallion returned to the stage, along with Lil Baby, DaBaby, and H.E.R. to heat the stage performing “I Did It” from his hit album Khaled Khaled.

The Golden Globe and BET Best Actress winner Andra Day took us back with her rendition of the “Strange Fruit” medley.

The 2021 BET Awards ended with a tribute to the late, great DMX! We were lead by Method Man performing X’s “Get at Me Dog” acapella. This was followed by Griselda (Westside Gunn, Conway, and Benny The Butcher) spitting fire bars from their new song with DMX off the posthumous album Exodus. Michael K. Williams, an iconic actor from The Wire, performed “I’m Slipping” acapella. Swizz Beatz and The Lox took it over to perform the “Ruff Ryders Anthem” and “Lose My Mind.” The outro was a prayer by DMA serenaded to a beautiful violin medley…

Black star power was in the air with so many great performances, tributes, and honors. Megan Thee Stallion led the pack for nominations and ended up taking home the most awards- albeit a few were shared with Cardi for their “WAP” hit.
